The Wellness Community Celebrates It’s 1st Anniversary!

2nd Annual Spokes For Hope

Community Involvement

2nd Annual Spokes For Hope

Russell Reid employees are again gearing up to take part in the 2nd Annual Wellness Community Spokes for Hope Bike Race to support people affected by cancer.

The Wellness Community – The Diney Goldsmith Center is now taking registrations for the event which is to be held on October 4th, 2008.  Participants are encouraged to join with hundreds of other supporters who will ride their bikes for two worthy causes; The Wellness Community as well as the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

“Last year, the enthusiasm of the riders, volunteers and other supporters was such an inspiration” said Ilene Winters, Event Organizer and Executive Director of the Wellness Community, Northern Jersey Shore.  “Our goal is to bring even more riders out this year to have fun and make a difference by showing their support for those affected by cancer.”

Sponsored by the Peddler of Long Branch, the Spokes for Hope bike ride offers something for everyone with three unique courses around scenic Jersey Shore coastal routes in Monmouth county.  Recreational cyclists can tackle the 62.5 mile Metric Century, while more casual riders can opt for the 31 or 16 mile courses.  All rides start and finish at Pier Village on the beachfront in Long Branch.

The ride is fully supported, with food being served before and after as well as plenty of stops and refreshments along the way. All participants are also given a t-shirt and goodie bag at the starting line and prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers.  A humble entry fee of $25.00 covers administrative costs for the race, allowing the bulk of funds raised to go towards the cancer support programs of both The Wellness Community, Northern Jersey Shore and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

About the Wellness Community:
The Wellness Community, Northern Jersey Shore - The Diney Goldsmith Center opened its doors in May of 2007 to the 1.2 million residents of Monmouth and Ocean counties to offer support, education and hope to people affected by cancer.  All programs are offered free of charge and include support groups, educational workshops, mind/body classes and social events.  The programs help combat the isolation felt by people with cancer by inviting them to join a community of others affected by the disease.
