Spring Cleaning

Spring is typically the time of year when we take a good look at our basements, attics and garages and decide to finally do something about the mess and accumulation.

Once motivated, take a look around and make a list of the sizes of the large items you will be throwing away.  Add up the sizes of these items to figure out the minimum size dumpster you will need.  If in doubt, go a size larger.  It’s cheaper to get a larger size dumpster than to have it dumped a second time.  Also note that the items you put in the dumpster must not extend above the top, so couches and mattresses and other large items must be placed horizontally.

See the chart below for approximate container sizes.
10 yard: 42"H 96"W 11'L
20 yard: 48"H 96"W 22'L
30 yard: 72"H 96"W 22'L

Next, be sure to let us know what you will be placing in to the container.  All materials placed inside of the dumpster must be non-hazardous.  The most common household waste types are as follows:

Household waste – light co-mingled waste generated from household clean outs such as clothing, plastic toys, small metal items, carpeting, books and magazines.

Construction and Demolition waste - material resulting from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition.

The following materials may be recycled: concrete, asphalt, soil, mixed masonry, metal(s), cardboard, & brush/ stumps.  If you are disposing of these materials in bulk, please let us know in advance as the disposal rates for recycled materials vary from other types of materials.  Also, these items must not be co-mingled with other types of debris as penalties and additional charges will result.

If you will be placing your dumpster on the street, make sure you have a permit.  Be sure to check with your municipality first, as local regulations vary.

If you want the dumpster on your driveway or lawn, mark off the exact area for delivery and make sure the path to the area is free from obstructions such as locked gates, overhead wires, etc. Place plywood or other material to protect surfaces.  Note that we cannot be held responsible for damages to grass or landscape, so plan accordingly!
